getting historical data is a pain

Postby frAnton » Wed Nov 14, 2012 9:32 am

hi guys,

Getting historical data takes very long time in my app, and even times out in TS2.
Started happening this month.
Did you guys change something on a server side?

thanks,
Anton.

We have double checked retrieving historical prices and they are loaded pretty fast.
It would be great if you could provide the following:
1) the name of the server you use;
2) the symbol, time interval and time frame (period) which you use;
3) the code snippet how do you retrieve data.
It will greatly help us to understand and resolve the problem.

hi sunshine,

Nice hearing from you, how it's going?
Thank you for the answer.

Yep, I know that loading hist price is usually fast, this is why I was kinda surprised after the client stopped receiving it. Here is the info you requested:
1. MINIREAL2 - I can reproduce the issue there.
2. The client is trying to get max points for all time frames beginning from m1(600 points), m5(300 points),... and up to M1(49 points). The first one it receives is EUR/USD(m1) and it seems that it hangs after that. Sometime it gets 5 or 7 periods(I did not track which ones) and then hangs as no responses are coming in.
The data finally received after several attempts of reconnecting the client.
3. The code has not been changed for year or two, the request is sent and the response is getting back through the listener and passed down to the code to process it in. There's nothing unusual. The errors the client is getting are mostly ORA2 types of error. I assume it's timing out.

It might be related to my internet connection though, and I am trying to troubleshoot what side run out of sync.

Hope it helps.

thanks,
Anton.

Hi frAnton,

Just fine, thank you for asking. Hope all is well for you too.

Thank you for your reply. I have forwarded it to the developers.

The errors the client is getting are mostly ORA2 types of error. I assume it's timing out.

Is it possible to know the exact text of errors?

Hi sunshine,

It got back to normal at the end of the last week. I did not change anything in the code so it could be either the connection issue or something "magically" got fixed on a server side.

I will keep an eye on it and let you know when I get the errors again.

thanks,
Anton.

Hi sunshine,

the errors I am getting at the time the client is trying to start up are:

ORA-12002: The request has timed out.
ORA--2:
ORA-499: Unable to obtain station descriptor. ORA--2:

Please advise.

thanks,
Anton.

Hi there,

having problems getting hist price again.
My client's code has not changed, it seems to be server side issue.

thanks,
Anton.

Hi Anton,

Could you please, tell me which version of ForexConnenct do you use? The last version is 1.2.2. If you have another one, please download the new version from here and try your code.

Bets regards,
Ekaterina
